Hattiloo Theatre's ArtReach program consists of three FREE programs for at-risk youth.
The first program is Hattiloo Children's Theatre - free year-round rehearsals, workshops, and fieldtrips that give youth a historical context of Black theatre. While studying theatre, students also learn how to incorporate the arts into their everyday lives, so that they will grow to be well-rounded.
Our second program is Hattiloo On The Playground (HOP). It consists of a free play, youth talent show, and crafts stations that are staged at a different elementary school or neighborhood park each Saturday in August. HOP allows us to connect with families in their own communities.
Our third program is The Reader's Theatre Advantage, a customized after-school program to benefit students of failing-schools. This program enhances each student's reading fluency, comprehension, and confidence by giving them an authentic reason to read aloud.
Collectively these programs are a direct response to the current trend of schools cutting both funding and classroom time for their students' cultural enrichment in order to spend more recourses and give more attention preparing for standardized tests. However, statistics and anecdotal reports agree that involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skill.
‘Small & Mighty' signifies the strength of collective impact - many hands make for light work.
Small & Mighty Donors contribute $10 each month to ensure that Hattiloo has funds to help pay its monthly bills. While it's a modest amount, the impact is vital for Hattiloo's day-to-day operations.
While some donors see their contributions in the form of sponsorships or capital gifts, Small & Mighty donors have the benefit of sitting in the audience and saying to themselves “these lights are on because of me; there's soap in the bathroom because of me.”
These donors make a small donation each month and a mighty difference throughout the year. Won't you join us? Put on your cape and become a Small & Mighty donor today!
Do you already have enough designer perfume, decorative bowls, or stylish neckties? Ask your friends and loved ones to make donations to Hattiloo in your honor at any time during your birthday month, and establish an annual fund in your name.
For example - if your friends donate a total of $500, we would recognize you (JANE SMITH FUND) in all playbills and on our website for one year; you'll also get the benefits of your respective level - $500 would be the 'Celebrity' donor's level, which means you would receive two free tickets to the Season 9 performance of your choice, and an invitation to Hattiloo's Holiday Cocktail.
Now - here's the candle on your cake. You control your fund. You can designate it to ‘Play It Forward' and help bring ticket prices down for everyone or designate it to ‘ArtReach' and help keep our youth programs free. If enough gifts are contributed in your honor, you could even sponsor a play!
Please consider sharing your special day with us. Ask your friends to forget the gift card to some steakhouse and give you the gift that keeps on giving - tell them to make yours a Hatti-Birthday.
Want to volunteer at Hattiloo Theatre? Join us!
Volunteer usher duties include receiving and tearing tickets, directing patrons to their seats, and distributing tickets at will call. Ushers may also be asked to meet and greet patrons, help stuff programs, distribute programs and direct patrons to various lobby locations. Ushers are compensated for their work with an opportunity to see the Hattiloo production for which they volunteer.
CODE OF CONDUCT
Hattiloo is a cell phone free zone. No use of telephone during the volunteer hours. No photos, no texting, tweeting, etc. No chewing gum. Please stay in zone for the entire ushering period. For example, if an usher is assigned to guard the stage, he/she will need to stay there from the moment they arrive, until the House Manager announces ‘all clear.'
Black pant/skirt; plain white shirt with collar; and dark shoes (no sneakers). Hattiloo will provide you with an usher's vest (we have various sizes on-hand).
Your Gift May Be Worth More. Many employers offer matching gift programs that double or even triple your donation to Hattiloo, giving you the additional benefits associated with the higher level of giving.
