A Stage for Whats Next

A Stage for What’s Next

Building What Endures

For nearly 20 years, Hattiloo Theatre has been Memphis’ cultural home for Black theatre and one of the few freestanding Black repertory theatres in the nation.

Now we are preparing for what comes next.

A Stage for What’s Next is Hattiloo’s capital campaign to transform underused space into vibrant cultural hubs that expand artistic opportunity, strengthen community engagement, and secure Hattiloo’s independence for generations.

Help us build what endures.

Why Hattiloo Matters

Hattiloo offers Memphis something no other institution does: a permanent home for Black theatre rooted unapologetically in Black life, Black memory, and Black creative power.

We are not a temporary initiative or a diversity program folded into someone else’s vision. Hattiloo was built so Black stories could live on their own terms, centered, protected, and fully realized.

Our impact reaches far beyond the stage. We cultivate artists, model ownership, teach sustainability, and help build the cultural infrastructure that allows Black creativity not just to appear, but to endure.

As Hattiloo enters its twentieth season, partnerships with theatre companies in Norway, Johannesburg, and Jos, Nigeria connect Memphis to a global conversation about culture and storytelling.

A theatre rooted deeply in its community can speak powerfully to the world.
