THE COLORED MUSEUM
About Production:
Hattiloo Theatre becomes a living museum where art and history collide in The Colored Museum—an immersive theatrical experience like no other. Guided through the theatre’s transformed spaces, you’ll step into stark white exhibit rooms, where actors—posed as statues inside the walls—suddenly come to life before your eyes, animating George C. Wolfe’s provocative and darkly funny exploration of Black identity.
No seats. No stage. No boundaries. The Colored Museum places you inside the story as history, satire, and transformation unfold around you. Board Git on Board, where an airline hostess welcomes passengers onto a “celebrity slave ship.” Watch Cookin’ with Aunt Ethel, where a mammy figure hosts a biting comedic cooking show. Soldier with a Secret delivers a chilling monologue from a war-weary soldier, while The Party erupts into a surreal celebration of historical and pop culture icons.
Bold, thought-provoking, and immersive, Hattiloo’s transformation into this dynamic museum launches our 20-Year Anniversary Season—an experience you won’t just watch, but feel.

MACBETH IS A MANE
About Production: Macbeth is a Mane is a bold Memphis retelling of Shakespeare’s classic, performed by Memphis youth in the slang, rhythm, and poetry of the city. The story follows Macbeth, a loyal soldier who hears a prophecy that he will be king. Pushed by ambition and his wife’s pressure, he chooses murder to take the throne, only to be consumed by guilt, paranoia, and betrayal as everything he built begins to fall apart. By putting this tragedy in a Memphis voice, the production shows that the language of Black youth is powerful, lyrical, and worthy of the stage while creating space for young artists to be seen and heard.
